Sharon Shoemaker, Ph.D.

Dr. Shoemaker is the founder and Executive Director of the California Institute of Food and Agricultural Research, which works to provide opportunities for exchange and collaboration between its academic base at UC Davis and agricultural industry affiliates to facilitate food technology research and product-development. Prior to joining CIFAR at UC Davis, Dr. Shoemaker worked for 15 years in the biotechnology industry, focusing on biomass/cellulase applications and optimizing the manufacturing process of value-added food products such as ethanol. She has been an important contributor to the DOE and USDA strategic planning and organizing committees, and additionally has served on the editorial board of multiple journals including Food Foresight and the ACS Journals.
