Dr. Alam is currently Senior Scientist in the Clinical Sciences Division of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research Bangladesh (ICDDR,B), a reputed organization for research in health sciences. For the last 30 years, Dr. Alam has been involved in clinical research, training of health personnel, and has managed patients with diarrhea, malnutrion, pneumonia and other related diseases. Dr. Alam's research focus includes developing an improved Oral Rehydrating Solution formulation (Super-ORS) as well as antidiarrheal drugs and food. He was also a member of a WHO expert committee where he oversaw protocol development, clinical studies, recommendation, and implementation of a new formulation of reduced osmolarity ORS. Dr. Alam is a trained gastroenterolgist and was trained in University Hospital, Liestal and Basel, Switzerland and obtained his MD degree from University of Basel, Switzerland. Additionally, he is a faculty member of F1000 Medicine and is responsible for evaluation of published articles relevant to gastrointestinal infections.
